Stumped about recycling? Get your recycling questions answered when you join High Country Conservation Center at the local Recycling Centers. HC3 staff and volunteers will be on site every other Thursday beginning July 23rd from 3 pm to 5 pm to help you learn more about recycling in our community. It’s your chance to find out where your recycling goes, ask your toughest questions, and find out more about HC3’s programs and events!

Virtual Electric Vehicle (EV) Events   |   National Drive Electric Week 

It’s time to go electric! But how does one get started? The variety of electric vehicles on the market is increasing, the network of charging stations is growing, and the tax benefits are still great (especially in Colorado).

Join in on these two virtual events focused on Colorado-specific EV ownership. As part of National Drive Electric Week (Sept. 26-Oct. 4), CLEER and their partners around the state are hosting two webinars designed to get you up to speed on EVs. Virtual EV Ride & Drive

Get a quick intro to several EV models – and hear from their owners – start out with this virtual “ride & drive.”

See interviews with EV owners from around the state, who will discuss the pros and cons of their vehicle and answer questions about range, charging, winter driving and other aspects of the electric experience.

National Drive Electric Week, September 26 to October 4, 2020, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today’s widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.

August was a doozy — across Colorado we saw record high temperatures, multiple wildfires, and drought, each highlighting the reality of a warming climate. The US Fourth National Climate Assessment warns that impacts of climate change are intensifying across the country, threatening our physical, social, and economic well-being. With important local, state, and national elections coming up, will 2020 be the year we decide to take bold action to reverse climate change?

Join us on October 14 to see director Damon Gameau’s film 2040 – a project he calls an “exercise in fact-based dreaming.” Drawing on the best minds from around the world to focus on climate, economics, technology, civil society, agriculture and sustainability, this is a film that shows us what 2040 could look like if we envision a better future for ourselves and our planet. It’s a story of hope, and a powerful tool to encourage people to take action.

Listeners will come away with a general understanding about how solar panels work, what to expect in Summit’s climate, financial incentives, and Xcel Energy programs. We’ll also hear from a local business sharing its experience installing solar panels. Bring any burning questions with you – there will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop.

Proper planning is one of the keys to getting the most out of a short-season garden. In this virtual workshop, Summit CSA Farmer and high altitude growing expert Kyla Laplante will offer tips on how to plant garden space for your family size and how to choose vegetable varieties that thrive in Summit County’s mountain environment. Attendees will also learn about timing the harvest and succession planting to make your garden more productive in a short growing season. This workshop is geared to gardeners of all levels and those new to Summit County’s growing environment.
