If you’ve thought about swapping out old incandescent light bulbs for energy efficient LEDs, now is a great time! This Friday, September 22, HC3 is partnering with LED Supply Co. to offer you a chance to snag some LEDs at super discounted prices. Swing by the greenhouses at the Frisco Transfer Center between 11:30 and 2:30 PM to meet Damien from LED Supply Co. who will be on hand to talk to you about your business’ lighting needs and schedule a time to check out your property. On-site, he’ll pull together a list of LED bulb types you need as well as a quote — businesses that sign up for a free assessment during the fair will be able to purchase most bulbs for just $1 or $2! Are you a property manager or a member of an HOA? Come talk to Nick from Franklin Energy about Xcel Energy’s Multifamily Buildings program. Join the High Country Conservation Center for the 29th Annual Tim McClure Benefit on Friday, February 23rd from 6-10pm at the Double Tree Breckenridge. Tickets are available at the door for $40, or $60 for VIP tickets. Tickets include appetizers, live music, EveryBelly Dancers, a great silent auction, and unlimited tasting of local beer, wine, and spirits from Angry James Brewery, Baker’s Brewery, Broken Compass Brewery, Dillon Dam Brewery, Pug Ryan’s, Breckenridge Distillery, and samples from a variety of Colorado wines. VIP ticket holders receive a pint glass for tasting, early access to our silent auction and automatic entry into a VIP drawing for a gift certificate to the Infinity Spa at the Grand Colorado on Peak 8 in Breckenridge. All proceeds benefit HC3.

Held in memory of Tim McClure, a conservation pioneer who began Summit’s first recycling program back in 1976, the benefit honors his legacy and supports the HC3 programs that continue his vision. The event also recognizes the conservation efforts of community members and businesses with the presentation of the Green Scene Awards. It takes place thanks to generous in-kind donations from Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise.

Join us on Wednesday, October 16, at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in the Hoosier Room from 12 pm to 1:30 pm for a free luncheon and workshop on energy efficiency and renewable energy for commercial buildings.
Owners and operators will learn about the Colorado Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing tool that allows commercial building owners to finance qualifying energy efficiency, water conservation, and clean energy improvements to their existing or newly constructed properties. C-PACE makes projects cost-effective and encourages property owners to invest in newer, greener technologies.

Why the new name?
Party for the Planet is held in honor of HC3’s founder, Tim McClure. Not only did Tim start Summit’s first recycling program in 1976, he was a pioneer whose conservation ethic still exists today.
HC3 will honor Tim’s legacy with a new individual achievement award. And, the new event name – Party for the Planet – celebrates HC3’s work in climate action, water conservation and more. We hope you’ll join us on Friday, March 6 to party for the planet. It all takes place thanks to generous in-kind donations from Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise and presenting sponsorship from BGV Gives.

Proper planning is one of the keys to getting the most out of a short-season garden. In this virtual workshop, Summit CSA Farmer and high altitude growing expert Kyla Laplante will offer tips on how to plant garden space for your family size and how to choose vegetable varieties that thrive in Summit County’s mountain environment. Attendees will also learn about timing the harvest and succession planting to make your garden more productive in a short growing season. This workshop is geared to gardeners of all levels and those new to Summit County’s growing environment.

Remember, community garden space is available through High Country Conservation Center, so even if you don’t have vegetable beds at home, you can grow your own food all summer long.
Annual Hard-to-Recycle Event: Postponed
The Hard-to-Recycle event will not be held this spring, but residents are invited to bring household hazardous waste like paint and household cleaners, as well as electronic waste, to the Summit County Resource Allocation Park Monday – Friday 7am -3:30pm and Saturday 7am-noon. Town Clean Up Week: May 15-23
The Towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne are calling for volunteers to help clean up Summit County before summer. As the snow melts, those windblown and forgotten items from our busy winter season become noticeable, making spring cleaning a necessity. This year’s cleanup will take place May 15-23 to allow for time and space for physical distancing.
Cleanup supplies can be picked up from designated areas in each Town, or personal supplies can be used if preferred. Volunteers are encouraged to pick a favorite area near their home that needs attention rather than receiving an assigned area. Filled trash bags (50lbs or less) should be placed visibly near the side of the road.
Instagram Contest: Community members can post a photo of their Town Clean Up experience on Instagram by May 23 for a chance to win gift cards from local businesses. One photo entry per person. Winners will be notified by each Town after the contest has closed.

Drop off your hard to recycle items | Saturday, May 21
High Country Conservation Center in partnership with Summit County will be helping residents properly dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) by making dropping off these items easy. The community is invited to bring their hard-to-recycle items to the Summit Stage Bus Barn on May 21st from 8AM – 2PM.

- Computer monitors, printers, keyboards & wires
- Sound systems, DVD players & VCRs
- Aerosol cans, chemicals & cleaners
- Paints, thinners, glues & adhesives
- Fertilizers & pesticides

- Prescription drugs
- E-Cigarettes
*Motor oil is NOT accepted at this event. Please bring motor oil to the SCRAP.
This event is held in conjunction with Town Clean Up Day. Please reference your town’s website for additional information regarding individual town clean up details.
