This Friday, September 22, HC3 is partnering with LED Supply Co. to offer you a chance to snag some LEDs at super discounted prices. Swing by the greenhouses at the Frisco Transfer Center between 11:30 and 2:30 PM to meet Damien from LED Supply Co. who will be on hand to talk to you about your business’ lighting needs and schedule a time to check out your property. Are you a property manager or a member of an HOA? Come talk to Nick from Franklin Energy about Xcel Energy’s Multifamily Buildings program. DISRUPTION: DEFINING RADICAL IN THE AGE OF HUMANS
Speaker: Rob Davies
Bio: Robert Davies is a physicist and noted science communicator whose work focuses on complexity, global change and human vibrancy. Over the past decade Rob has delivered hundreds of public lectures ― to policymakers, business leaders, civic organizations and faith communities ― and his “performance science” theatrical collaboration The Crossroads Project | Rising Tide has been performed across the U.S. and in three countries. Dr. Davies has served as a scientific liaison for NASA on the International Space Station Project; as a project scientist with USU’s Space Dynamics Laboratory; and an officer and meteorologist in the United States Air Force. Originally hailing from the Black Hills of South Dakota, Rob is currently Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Utah State University’s Dept. of Physics, in Logan, Utah.
About the talk:
The BAD news…Sixty percent of Earth’s wildlife has disappeared in the past forty years. Ninety-nine percent of Earth’s coral reefs will likely be gone within two decades; and humanity’s disruption of the planetary climate is accelerating toward thresholds of extreme risk. Meanwhile forty million people today exist in modern slavery; seventy million are forcibly displaced from their homes; more than two billion live in states of critical deprivation; and just thirty individuals today possess the wealth of the world’s poorest half ― 3.8 billion people.
The GOOD news…The human systems driving this situation… are going away. Humanity’s systems of food, energy, and economy require more resources than Earth can provide ― by a wide margin. The physics is crystal clear: The likelihood that these systems of ecological devastation will persist, for even a few more decades, is essentially zero.
The BAD news…We exist in a state of planetary emergency. The party’s raging and we’re nowhere close to meeting the challenge.
The GOOD news…We haven’t really tried.
We have what we need to build a sustainable, just, and vibrant space for humanity. With courage and resolve, we stand on the edge of extraordinary achievement.
Let’s try.

Presented by HC3, the Towns of Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne, and Summit County government.
Previously known as the Tim McClure Benefit, Party for the Planet is HC3’s largest fundraiser of the year. We invite you to celebrate with local brews, music by Beau Thomas and a huge silent auction, all to support this amazing place we call home.
Join us Friday, March 6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Breckenridge and be ready to celebrate.
Learn more about the event on our official Party for the Planet page.
Why the new name?
Party for the Planet is held in honor of HC3’s founder, Tim McClure. Not only did Tim start Summit’s first recycling program in 1976, he was a pioneer whose conservation ethic still exists today.
HC3 will honor Tim’s legacy with a new individual achievement award. And, the new event name – Party for the Planet – celebrates HC3’s work in climate action, water conservation and more. We hope you’ll join us on Friday, March 6 to party for the planet. It all takes place thanks to generous in-kind donations from Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise and presenting sponsorship from BGV Gives.

Annual Hard-to-Recycle Event: Postponed

Town Clean Up Week: May 15-23
The Towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne are calling for volunteers to help clean up Summit County before summer. As the snow melts, those windblown and forgotten items from our busy winter season become noticeable, making spring cleaning a necessity. This year’s cleanup will take place May 15-23 to allow for time and space for physical distancing.
Cleanup supplies can be picked up from designated areas in each Town, or personal supplies can be used if preferred. Volunteers are encouraged to pick a favorite area near their home that needs attention rather than receiving an assigned area. Filled trash bags (50lbs or less) should be placed visibly near the side of the road.
Instagram Contest: Community members can post a photo of their Town Clean Up experience on Instagram by May 23 for a chance to win gift cards from local businesses. One photo entry per person. Winners will be notified by each Town after the contest has closed.
Please reach out to your specific town with any questions or concerns.
