In celebration of locally grown food, the High Country Conservation is hosting its Annual CSA Celebration, Tuesday, August 14th from 5-7pm at the Summit CSA greenhouses in Frisco. Appetizers and libations will be served, and you’ll get the chance to tour the greenhouses and mingle with HC3 staff & board members, as well as other community members. Temporary Recycling For Political Yard Signs @ High Country Conservation Center | Frisco | Colorado | United States

The High Country Conservation Center is partnering with the towns of Breckenridge and Frisco for a temporary yard sign recycling program. Dates vary and are limited. Some candidates collect their signs for reused – please check with your local candidate and/or campaign committee before recycling. Corrugated plastic political signs, along with the metal stakes (which should be separated from the signs), will be accepted for recycling at the following locations:

  • Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center (300 Main Street in Frisco): Drop off signs any day Tuesday, Nov. 6 through Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 9am to 5pm.
  • Breckenridge Town Hall (150 Ski Hill Road in Breckenridge, leave in the Sustainability Office, lower level): Drop off signs weekdays only from Tuesday, Nov. 6 through Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 9am to 5pm.

Please do not leave signs outside, as they will blow away and become trash. Also, take note: yard signs are not accepted at the Summit County recycling centers or in curbside recycling.

They do everything from selling beer to moving tables to assisting with registration and selling t-shirts. This event would not happen without the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time year after year.

The Colorado BBQ Challenge is also extremely proud to be a Zero Waste event proving that you can eat great BBQ, have fun AND care for our beautiful mountain environment all at the same time. Come make a difference by volunteering with the High Country Conservation Center to make our Zero Waste efforts successful! Free Energy Workshop for Owners of Commercial Buildings @ Summit County Community & Senior Center

Learn how energy improvements can benefit your commercial building and the environment!

Join us on Wednesday, October 16, at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in the Hoosier Room from 12 pm to 1:30 pm for a free luncheon and workshop on energy efficiency and renewable energy for commercial buildings.

Owners and operators will learn about the Colorado Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing tool that allows commercial building owners to finance qualifying energy efficiency, water conservation, and clean energy improvements to their existing or newly constructed properties. C-PACE makes projects cost-effective and encourages property owners to invest in newer, greener technologies.

POSTPONED: Silverthorne Recycling Center Grand Opening & Recycling Q&A @ Silverthorne Recycling Center

The Silverthorne Recycling Center is open to the public, however the Grand Opening Celebration and Recycling Q&A has been postponed. A new date will be selected this spring/summer.

Join Summit County Government, Denver Water, and local towns for the grand opening of the new Silverthorne Recycling Center. HC3 staff will be on site to answer recycling questions and give away free compost buckets.

The Silverthorne Recycling Center is located at 0255 River Road in Silverthorne, adjacent to the Blue River Ball Fields, which are near the Outlets at Silverthorne. The drop-off center is similar to those in Breckenridge and Frisco. Materials accepted include plastic bottles #1 & #2, aluminum and tin, cardboard, mixed paper, milk and juice cartons, clear glass, colored glass, batteries, scrap metal, and food scraps. The Silverthorne Recycling Center is a Summit County Strong Future Initiative.

Recycling Q&A at The Baker’s Brewery

Following the event, HC3 staff will answer recycling questions from 5-6 p.m. at The Baker’s Brewery, located at 531 Silverthorne Lane. Bring your toughest recycling questions to this casual, drop-in event and learn what happens to local recycling. The Baker’s Brewery will offer their regular happy hour with $2 off beer, $1 off wells and wine, and 25% off the appetizer menu.

Proper planning is one of the keys to getting the most out of a short-season garden. In this virtual workshop, Summit CSA Farmer and high altitude growing expert Kyla Laplante will offer tips on how to plant garden space for your family size and how to choose vegetable varieties that thrive in Summit County’s mountain environment. Attendees will also learn about timing the harvest and succession planting to make your garden more productive in a short growing season. This workshop is geared to gardeners of all levels and those new to Summit County’s growing environment.
