What are the recycling and composting options for businesses in Summit County? What are the benefits? And what are the best practices if you’re just getting started? Discover answers to these questions and more by joining experts from HC3 for a free recycling and composting workshop.
Participants will come away with a general understanding about what it takes to set-up recycling and compost collection service, what materials are accepted, and resources and rebates available to make it happen. We’ll also hear a local business share its experience setting up compost and glass collection. Bring any questions with you – there will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop.
Annual Hard-to-Recycle Event: Postponed
The Hard-to-Recycle event will not be held this spring, but residents are invited to bring household hazardous waste like paint and household cleaners, as well as electronic waste, to the Summit County Resource Allocation Park Monday – Friday 7am -3:30pm and Saturday 7am-noon. Learn more about HHW recycling or call us at (970) 668-5703.
Town Clean Up Week: May 15-23
The Towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne are calling for volunteers to help clean up Summit County before summer. As the snow melts, those windblown and forgotten items from our busy winter season become noticeable, making spring cleaning a necessity. This year’s cleanup will take place May 15-23 to allow for time and space for physical distancing.
Cleanup supplies can be picked up from designated areas in each Town, or personal supplies can be used if preferred. Volunteers are encouraged to pick a favorite area near their home that needs attention rather than receiving an assigned area. Filled trash bags (50lbs or less) should be placed visibly near the side of the road.
Instagram Contest: Community members can post a photo of their Town Clean Up experience on Instagram by May 23 for a chance to win gift cards from local businesses. One photo entry per person. Winners will be notified by each Town after the contest has closed.
Please reach out to your specific town with any questions or concerns.

Named the “2018 Best Band in Summit”, the Collective’s unmistakable energy regularly fills dance floors in Summit County and beyond. The Collective’s rhythm section is rooted with bassist and founder Tyler Easton and renowned Venezuelan jazz drummer Leo Lopez. With Jon Neiman on tenor sax, Emily Durbin on vocals, and Eric James on guitar, the Collective creates a blend of jazz-inspired improvisation, New Orleans’s style grooves, and high-energy dance beats.

Other ways to watch film
Join High Country Conservation Center and Protect Our Winters for a free screening of the film Purple Mountains followed by an in-person Q&A with filmmaker and POW founder, Jeremy Jones.
About the Film:
Professional snowboarder and mountaineer Jeremy Jones has an intimate relationship with the outdoors. It’s his escape, his identity, and his legacy. But over the course of his 45 years in the mountains, he’s seen things change: more extreme weather, fewer snow days, and economic strain on mountain towns.
Motivated by an urge to protect the places he loves, Jeremy sets out on a physical and philosophical journey to find common ground with fellow outdoor people across diverse political backgrounds. He learns their hopes and fears while walking a mile in their shoes on the mountain and in the snow.
With intimacy and emotion set against breathtaking backdrops, Purple Mountains navigates America’s divide with a refreshing perspective: even though we may disagree about climate policy, our shared values can unite us.
