We CARE About Home Comfort and Savings

 In Our Stories

“I still can’t believe it didn’t cost me a cent. I’ve been able to set my thermostat lower than I ever have before, and I feel even more comfortable.” – Sheri Calderini, CARE Program participant

For years Summit County local Sheri Calderini has enjoyed her mountain townhome nestled partway up Boreas Pass Road in Breckenridge. But one thing that was less than ideal about her charming home was the pricey utility costs and lack of absolute comfort. Fortunately for Sheri, she had read a story in the local paper about the Colorado Affordable Residential Energy (CARE) program.

Supported by Xcel Energy and the Denver-based non-profit, Energy Outreach Colorado, the CARE program delivers tremendous benefits to Summit County locals. Available to residents of Summit County who earn up to 80% of the area median income, program participants receive free home weatherization services and energy efficiency improvements, such as LED lighting, attic and crawlspace insulation, and sealing leaky spaces.

These measures add up to big energy savings and improved comfort in homes like Sheri’s. She received LED lighting, water efficient shower heads, increased attic and crawlspace insulation, and a reduction in air leakage at her property. The project totaled over $4,000 and was completed at no cost to her. In addition to a potential increase in property value, Sheri now enjoys lower energy costs, and her home is noticeably warmer.

“All I had to do was qualify,” she says. “HC3 scheduled a home visit and handled the entire project for me. I still can’t believe it didn’t cost me a cent. I’ve been able to set my thermostat lower than I ever have before, and I feel even more comfortable.”
